Dear Dr. Udaya Kumar,
My friend has serious symptoms for a few months now and she is very worried about it. I looked through my homeopathie books and have a remedy in mind but do not want to give it without professional opinion. Could you please help?
Female, 37 years old, thin and sporty look, for a European rather darker skin, Father died when 12 years old (car accident).
As a child she was told she had excessive amount of pigment in her skin (although I don’t know what they meant by that...)
As a child from 3 years old up to her puberty (14 years old) she had infections of her urinary system constantly.
Yellowish discharge.
Diagnosed with Epstein Barr Virus 13 years ago. Isoprinosine healed the issues.
She has attention to detail and is very precise in everything she is doing. Perfectionist. She keeps everything very tidy e.g. organising things according to shapes and colours...
She can remember and describe everything very detailed. Also symptoms: she knows exactly what she feels.
She doesn’t like heavy clothes on her skin. In fact she says, she would prefer to be naked all the time if she could. No heavy blanket.
She likes spicy food and sweet things like cakes. Coffee addict. Loves vegetables. Doesn’t like meat very much.
She doesn’t feel thirsty.
Very itchy skin since she was diagnosed with EBV. Scratches herself with her fingernails even during sleeping. Scars from scratching at her neck (dry skin).
Excessively exfoliates her skin with a brush/ sponge when having a shower. Otherwise doesn’t feel clean. Itchy scalp.
White is her preferred colour for everything. Clothes, Beddings...
She uses a hot water bottle every evening.
She has her window open a little bit day and night, summer and winter even if she feels cold. She has a very small sleeping room and thinks she might not get enough oxygen. She likes fresh air at all times.
Slightly claustrophobic.
Always in a hurry. Walks very quickly almost running even if not in a hurry. Talks quite quickly. Very busy all the time. Makes herself busy. Cant stand being passive. Only if she is very unwell she can sleep for 3 days.
She works and studies.
She was mugged in September a few months before the major symptoms started. She fell unconscious during the incident because she hit her head on the pavement. She was checked after the incident – no injuries. Suffered a huge shock. Fear of going onto the street again.
Symptoms started 6 months ago (in February). Tingling in her toes (both feet were affected).
Tingling became stronger and turned into pins and needles and went upwards through her feet into her calves. Some days she felt wobbly and found it difficult to walk. Especially weakness in her ankles. Feet felt like numb and frozen, although she could still feel her feet.
Since mid May it progressed rapidly.
Once she went down on her knees and her knees felt like fabric without muscles. This feeling went on for 2 weeks. Not when she was walking, but when she goes down onto her knees.
Tingling in her thighs (not as bad as in calves) started and progressed into a tight belt torso feeling in the upper abdomen. Feels like thousands of bricks (500kg) would sit on her upper abdomen. Feeling as if something would grow inside and be in the way in the same area. She could not eat so much anymore.
Panic attacks. She thought it was cancer. She was talked out of this feeling by a doctor and since then doesn’t feel it growing anymore. The weight feeling is still there.
She started breathing shallow because of the tightness.
Few days later feeling as if skin was pulled heavily from the sides (hight of breasts) towards the back.
2 days later slight tingling started in her fingertips. Developing in short time into pins and needles and going towards the wrists. Pins and needles are so strong it feels like burning sensation.
Hands and forearms became very week and feel very heavy.
Losing grip in her fingers starting with the small fingers.
Lets cup of coffee slip without knowing why it happened.
Better if she controls it visually with her eyes.
Visual and physical coordination doesn’t seem to work anymore.
It carries on with pins and needles in her breasts.
She can’t write properly anymore.
Stiffness in her fingers and toes.
Since the pins and needles sensation very sensitive to hot things (hot cup in her hands).
Feeling as if she would wear very tight stockings in her calves.
Landmarks (blue purple on the thighs) since February. Doctor mentioned Vasculitis.
Discharge changed to greenish during her stay in hospital. No pain, no odour.
Fear of getting paralysed because of the fast progress of her symptoms.
Her head is fine.
Diagnosis in hospital:
Very low Vitamin D level (she was given a high dose injection)
MRI of brain and spine: Demyelinating or inflammatory disorder of the cns.
Excessive amount of folic acid in her blood.
The eye white is slightly yellow (Diagnosis of eye doctor; degeneration of Cornea)
More tests will follow.
Possible diagnosis of MS.
Please let me know if you need any more information.
Thank you very much for your help.
Best regards

Dear Schola,
Prima facie her white matter is effected and there is demylineation going on with leukodystrophe. Eye sight could also be effected. It could also be metachromatic or Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy. It needs deeper evaluation to know whether there is MS. It has long surpassed stage opf vasculitis. The medicines immediately coming to my mind without referring anything or anywhere are Lathyrus, Bovista, Mercurious, strichninum, aethusa, hypericum, arnica, natrum sulfph, and phosphorus. I have not read your description of the ailment. A symptomwise evaluation has not been done as I have not read your desciption fully. I shall come back to it after I finish with others, and will revert after reading. I am not a doctor by profession. with warm regards.

Let me attempt for you a point by point analysis :
1.As a child she was told she had excessive amount of pigment in her skin - This means a lot. They were not talking about peripheral melanin which causes pigmentation of the skin but about Neuromelanin. Neuromelanin is a dark polymer pigment produced in specific populations of catecholaminergic neurons in the brain. Catecholaminergic ) neurons produce the neurotransmitters dopamine and noradrenalin. Catecholaminergic neurons control diverse cognitive, motor, and endocrine functions and are associated with multiple psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.
These were evident right from her colour as you have mentioned that she is European rather darker skin. Excess formation with Vitamin D from the sun can turn the skin to negroid (black) colouration. which is normal. But in a cold country where sun is less and the colour of skin apparently is more darker would raise the suspicion for going into the function of Adrinals (Medullah of Adrenals), hypothalmus, thalamus, pituitary, peneal glands. The point seems to have been ignored. Increased catecholamines in the urine would be indicative of tumorous disposition in cells of adrenals.
2. As a child from 3 years old up to her puberty (14 years old) she had infections of her urinary system constantly.
Yellowish discharge. - This again a serious symptom have been ignored for 11 years. 14 years puberty is a little delayed and Natrum Mur certainly was indicative here.
The symptom have subdivisions:
1.Yellow leucorhea - Kreosotum,
Aesculus
Agnus
Hydrastis
2.leucorrhea in children - Calc.Carb.
3. Yellow leucorrhea with pruiritis - Sepia
4. Leucorrhea before menses -Calc.carb
5. Delayed symptoms of puberty like defective development of breasts, non growth of hair in arm pits and pubes - Pituitarinum and Zincum Met.
Here Pituitary glands due to pituitarinum and a also defects in Dopamine regulatory mechanism gets indicated with zincum met symptoms.Kali Carb is yet another medicine indicated for delayed menstruation. Natrum Mur is the first medicine. then the Epistein barr and
Isoprinosine. Epistein barr would indicate strongly Thuja, Natrum Mur and other medicines further the role of Isoprinosine to ultimately end up in neurodegenerative diseases is debatable. .
3. She has attention to detail and is very precise in everything she is doing. Perfectionist. She keeps everything very tidy e.g. organising things according to shapes and colours... ---- Here Natrum Mur and Arsenic Album alongwith psoric sycotic and syphilitic myasm are indicated.
4. She doesn’t like heavy clothes on her skin. In fact she says, she would prefer to be naked all the time if she could. No heavy blanket. - Bovista - hyosiamus????
5.She doesn’t feel thirsty. -here natrum mur.
6. Very itchy skin since she was diagnosed with EBV. Scratches herself with her fingernails even during sleeping. Scars from scratching at her neck (dry skin). - Psorinum, natrum mur, bovista.
7.Excessively exfoliates her skin with a brush/ sponge when having a shower. Otherwise doesn’t feel clean. Itchy scalp. -syphilitic miasm. -Arsenic album, syphilinum.
8. She has her window open a little bit day and night, summer and winter even if she feels cold. She has a very small sleeping room and thinks she might not get enough oxygen. She likes fresh air at all times. -Carbo veg. Calc.Carb.
Slightly claustrophobic. -Hydrastis,Aconitum, Arg.nit.
Panic Attacks - Kali Phos. or other potassium salts.
9. Always in a hurry. Walks very quickly almost running even if not in a hurry. Talks quite quickly. Very busy all the time. Makes herself busy. Cant stand being passive. Only if she is very unwell she can sleep for 3 days. -Argentum Nitricum,. Hydrastis.
10. unconscious during the incident because she hit her head on the pavemen - Arnica 200, 1M. Natrum Sulph 6X, 30C.
11. Feels like thousands of bricks (500kg) would sit on her upper abdomen. -Hypericum.
12. Eye symptom is very important .
14. She does not seems to have any cancer.
15. Uncomfortable with clothing, circulatory problems, Purple spots and red blotches coming up.-Lachesis.
You can see that there is an evolving pattern. from the endorcrine glands, then adrinals then effecting the sex glands at the puberty stage, and further allowing the EB virus to settle perhaps in the chest and further up. The urinary infections, and then the demilineation process. And it should be treated in that order. Starting from Thuja Natrum Mur, Psorinum, Calcarea Carb, Arnica,Merc Sol, Lathyrus, Bovista,Hypericum, Aethusa, Petroleum, Phosphorus, Alumina (feels like walking on cotton), Cocculus Indicus, (see extremities),Sulphur, Kali Phos,,Sepia, according to symptoms prevailing. Since it is an ascending ailment, Ledum Pal should also be considered.

Dear Dr. Udaya Kumar,
thank you so much for your quick and very detailed response. I know it takes a lot of time to read all the symptoms and to think it through and I very much appreciate the time you spend for helping us and others.
I think a few things I wrote might have been misleading. She is not negroid at all, she has a very nice teint/complexion as if she would use sunbeds every now and then. I know you wrote about the Neuromelanin and that this is not responsible for her skin colour, but I wonder why the doctors would have made a test for Neuromelanin back then (about 30 years ago). I just wanted to mention that for not giving you a wrong impression.
Also I am not sure when her puberty started, but the urinary tract symptoms stopped when she was 14.
Her head is completely fine. She has no problem with her eyes at all, in fact she says she has a perfect night vision.
She said: if you would give me a new body from underneath the neck I would be completely fine again.
I wondered whether the upwards moving pins and needles and the tight belt symptom in calves and upper abdomen make you think about a remedy. These and the numbness and weakness in her hands are the symptoms that bother her most at the moment. You mentioned Ledum for the ascending symptoms.
I have to admit that I am slightly confused about the amount of remedies you mentioned. Although of course they represent the history of her illnesses, I wonder if they are still valid at this stage.
I thought that from the classical homeopathy point of view I should search for the best fitting remedy.
I had Arg-nit. in mind.
And I have to admit, that I gave her one dose of Hypericum C200 already 2 days ago as I hoped for a healing effect on her nerves. She expected an effect in the morning after, which unfortunately didn't happen. She mentioned that she was sleeping better though, but it was her first night out of hospital, so staying in her own bed might have been the simple reason for that.
So please help me with the decision, whether I should start with Thuja or search for the best fitting remedy.
Thanks a lot and best regards

Dear Schola,
I was fully aware that she is a European Lady with fair colour but with darker hue. When I said Negroid, I was only referring to function of Melanin and its relation ship in establishing the colouration as well as its relationship between adrinals(being produced in medulla of adrenals and functions in the cerebrum or cerebellum) and thalamas/pituitary and its disorder as percursor indicator for us to know that a nerve degenerating ailment cannot be far away.
We should remember that this is an acute condition of a chronic ailment and she would need few many medicines quickly put into her system and a classical approach may be counterproductive here because the ailments are not caused by natural destabilsation but due to mostly by chemicals and metals toxins in particular Mercury and mostly iatrogenically(the role of Isoprinosine is debatable here) with predisposition, viral attacks and immuno deficiencies.
The following symptoms are very very important and lead symptoms to tell you that a de-mylineation process is in the offing. :
1. Hand symptoms. like Not able to hold things -
2. The eye white is slightly yellow (Diagnosis of eye doctor; degeneration of Cornea)--------- Eye symptoms as diagnosed in the hospital as degeneration of retina is fully related to the ailment of vasculitis and leukodystrophe. with sclerosis.
3. Very low Vitamin D level again is indicative of the melanin connection as well as an auto immune disorder.
4.. MRI of brain and spine: Demyelinating or
inflammatory disorder of the cns------------.indicative of vasculitis which is percursor to demyelination.is somewhat conclusive.
Excessive amount of folic acid in her blood.
Possible diagnosis of MS. ---- agreed but chances of lateral sclerosis than Multiple sclerosis.
I cannot define the role of folic acid though I am pretty sure that it is an indicator towards assimilation problem in the subject as well as dna related issues and in particular b6/b12 problems. (we can keep this in abeyance as of now).
Remission of Epestein Barr may cause reactive arthritis or ascending arthritis. There fore Ledum Pal seems an extremely apt remedy there.
In pins and needles the main suspects could be demyelineation diseases, MS and multiple sclerosis and Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
Now coming back to medicines. I would like you to put her on three doses of Ledum Palustrum 30 three doses a day for three days and simultaneously Lathyrus 30 three times a day for one day and Bovista 30 three times a day for one day. Argentum Nitricum may find insufficient but is needed later. Hypericum may continue in 30C. considering the pins and needles and the history of pruritis and the arthritic tendencies, Colchicum 30 may also be used three times for one day.
Mercurious 30 three times a day for three days to stop demyelineation and neutralise mercury toxins in the body (if there is any filling in the mouth containing mercury it should be immediately removed). We have to arrest the progress of the ailment immediately and here three medicines would be valuable:
1. Ledum (to stop ascendingand for septic condition of blood).
2.. Lathyrus, (to stop deterioating to demyelineation and sclerosis of any type)
3. Bovisa (symptomatic for nerve degenerating disease)
4. Mercurious (remove mercury toxin and correct the nerve sheaths, stop binding mercury with the neurons in the nerves and dissolving the sheaths). Also against inflammation causing vasculitis.
Then we have to do immediate repairs to damages. Here
1. Hypericum
2. Colchicum
3. Arg.Nit., Aurum Met, causticum,. petroleum (has an effective function in sheaths of nerves), Kali Phos (to correct the nervous wreck), neurobion (to improve nerve strength along with hypericum), phosphorus to improve muscle strength and chest strength(EBV is to be considered here as responsible for a weak chest and an autoimmune condition), and Other symptomatic medicines as per evolving ground symptoms
Then go for the cause and the miasmetic background with Thuja, Natrum Mur, Psorinum etc.etc. Then again come back to healing the final aspects and residual ailments.
I think this is how we should try to contain this situation. with best wishes.

My friend had a very bad night sleep and bad dreams (she usually never dreams!). She was chased by someone who wanted to steal her handbag (remember she was mugged some months ago).
Her symptoms progressed. She has a feeling as if electricity would go through her body. Feeling went further up towards the elbows and she has the heavy weight feeling in her hands now as well. She also has the feeling that her hands are swollen/blown up, although not recognizable for me.
I was so worried about the symptoms progressing further that I gave her Ledum C200 and Arnica C200 (only potency I had).
I will go and get all the other remedies today in C30. Don't have Lathyrus in C potency at home, only LM18, so left it for now.
I hope that was not a mistake.
Thanks so much Udaya, I will keep you posted.

It appears she is suffering internally simulating low fevers. The dream can be related to Natrum Mur whereas the condition mentioned by her have two medicines in homeo:
1. Baptisia >Mind.--Wild, wandering feeling. Inability to think. Mental confusion. Ideas confused. Illusion of divided personality. Thinks he is broken or double, and tosses about the bed trying to get pieces together (Cajeput). Delirium, wandering, muttering. Perfect indifference. Falls asleep while being spoken to. Melancholia, with stupor.
Sleep.--Sleepless and restless. Nightmare and frightful dreams. Cannot get herself together, feels scattered about bed
2. Cajuput> Head.--Feels much enlarged. As if he could not get himself together (Baptisia).
And the third one is Thuja where symptoms are slightly different>
THUJA > Extremities.--When walking, limbs feel as if made of wood or glass, and would break easily. Tips of fingers swollen, red, feel read. Muscular twitchings, weakness and trembling. Cracking in joints. Pain in heels and tendo-Achilles. Nails brittle. Ingrowing toe nail.
Prima Facie a Septic condition is seen. Ledum suits that condition very well and if the fever is suspected and the other symptoms agrees Baptisia may be tried. Arnica and Ledum are tonics and can only do good, what ever be the condition or ailment.
The electricity shocks like conditions are felt in the following medicines >
Acid Flouricum
Cimicifuga
Ailanthus
Colchicum
Euphorbium
Phosphorus
Strychninum purum
Veratrum Vir
While all symptoms of all medicines are to be evaluated|, I will have my priority
for the following medicines in the following order >
1. Strychninum purum *very important medicine)(Please certainly buy and keep this medicine and administer if symptoms agree. There is urgency where Strychninum is indicated.
2. Phosphorus (antidot to electricity)
3. Colchicum (considering the arthritic factor also)
With best wishes.

Hi Udaya,
I just remembered that my friend bought 3 bottles of Indian Tonic Water recently. Could the Quinine have made the symptoms worse?
Usually she never has Tonic Water.
Also she thinks the symptoms might be a bit better since the Ledum and Arnica in the morning.
I will read about the other remedies now, thanks so much for all your advice.

You can stop Arnica 200 and replace it with Arnica 30 if need be. You must continue with Ledum Pal 30 upto minimum three days to get good results.
About the Indian tonic water I am not aware what it is.

As I read in Wiki:
Medicinal tonic water originally contained only carbonated water and a large amount of quinine. However, most tonic water today contains a less significant amount of quinine, and is thus used mostly for its flavour. As a consequence, it is less bitter, and is also usually sweetened. Sweet tonic water may contain corn syrup or sugar, making it less bitter. Some manufacturers also produce diet tonic water, which may contain artificial sweeteners. Traditional-style tonic water with little more than quinine and carbonated water is less common but may be preferred by those who desire the bitter taste.
In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration limits the quinine content in tonic water to 83 ppm (83 mg per litre if calculated by mass), which is 0.25% to 0.50% of the concentration used in therapeutic tonic. Still, it is often recommended as a relief for cramps. Dr. Jim Mitterando states that "Quinine is one of the few treatments shown to help reduce nocturnal cramps. Quinine is found in low concentrations in tonic water (one-tenth of prescription dose). Drinking 8 to 16 ounces (a quarter to a half litre) at night can be a simple remedy." However, because of quinine's risks, the United States Food and Drug Administration has declared that nonprescription sources, such as tonic water, should not be used to prevent or treat leg cramps.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonic_water
___________
Why take this water, when remedies like Cina,ArsAlb and China etc can work as a prophylactic in their own great capacity as tiny sugar pills?
How much ever I try, I fail to understand the vague nature of our minds ( though suppose to have infinite capacity to comprehend and differntiate)

Hi Garcot,
Thanks for your post. I thought my friend could have had a reaction to Quinine, because usually she doesn't drink Tonic at all but recently 3 liters (with a bit of gin ) - Tonic Water was on offer in the shops.
I thouht that if she was very sensitive to Quinine it could have worsened her symptoms.
But after reading your post, I think the amount of Quinine in Tonic shouldn't worsen any symptoms, probably rather better them.
----------------
My friends symptoms - especially the stiffness in her hands - seems worse in the mornings. I had a look at her fingers yesterday and they appeared to be swollen. Especially the tips and the part up to the 2nd joint. The skin is shiny there because it is stretched.
When I touched her hand electricity feeling went through again.
Also when she puts her head down - with the chin towards the chest, then she can feel the electricity going from the neck down her spinal chord through her body.
She started buying light weight groceries, because she can't carry heavy things anymore.
Everything is soooo heavy. Her hands and arms in partiucular.
She still looks very energetic and if she wouldn't tell me how bad she feels, you would never guess it.
She looks like a very self-confident young woman. She walks straight, always looks good and seems to know exactly what she wants.
She had to stop her studies for now, as she cant write properly anymore because of her hands. She told me last time: "Schola, I never finish anything."
I remembered another maybe not really important thing about her: when she was a kid she hardly wanted to eat anything. Her parents started to cut food into shapes e.g. a slice of cheese looked like a star - only then she would eat it.
She still eats a lot with her eyes - if you know what I mean. Arranging the food on the plate takes almost longer than eating it.
-----------
@ Udaya: I told her to try and avoid Coffee for now, especially because of Ledum. Usually she gets a headache when she doesnt drink coffee, but at the moment she is fine without coffee.
Unfortunately no reaction since the first dose of ledum and arnica. The first dose had an effect though. Could it rather have been from the Arnica as a remedy against shock?
I wanted to mention one more thing that I hadn't realised was wrong. The symptom slipped into the wrong part of the chronological list.
Sorry Udaya:
The discharge did not start when she was a child, but later as an adult.
Referring to your post: "As a child from 3 years old up to her puberty (14 years old) she had infections of her urinary system constantly.
Yellowish discharge. - This again a serious symptom have been ignored for 11 years. 14 years puberty is a little delayed and Natrum Mur certainly was indicative here."
Thanks everybody,
Schola

You need to act quickly and get the medicines indicated used. We have to arrest the course of the ailment as quickly as possible. It will soon slip into convulsions if not arrested. Spoon feeding is the immediate oncoming symptom. Arnica do not give any aggravations, those aggravations are in the normal course of the ailment. I am already treating three patients of the same symptoms in very advanced stage who are bedridden. The clarifications you gave are important but do not change the total picture. If she was vaccinated for Flue recently, we need to antidote that by Manganum aceticum. with regards. .

Hi Udaya,
no vaccinations at all.
Thanks for your quick response.

|
Arnica shock is different from the electricity feeling she has. Arnica shock is emotional and probably has more to do with depolarised magnetifc field rather that electric flow. Here the electric current like feeling is strichninum symptom or phosphorus. The seat is cerebrum, cerebellum and medullah. Phosphorus antidotes electric shock, but if it has an epeleptic overtone then strichninum is the right medicine.
Ok that precludes that meaning since no vaccination was done it precludes the weak ankles etc. of manganum style. So we seems to be in the right path with Strichninum, Bovista, Bufa, Kali Bormide etc. as more appropriate remedies.
